I am a Heating Ventilating %26amp; A/C technician, interested in gaining knowledge -through self study- in Building Automation Systems from companies like: Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, etc.
I have seen some general information in the website of above companies, but those are not in-depth enough.
Also the training programs that these companies offer are really expensive.
Could anyone make any suggestion as to how i should start?
I borrowed some books from library about Cisco networking, Java programming, etc.
Do you think I'm on the right track? If not, what subjects/books would you suggest me to study.
Thanks for advice.HVAC tech. needs advice on Building Automation Sys.?
Those three are the ones. Does your emploueer have a compensation program for such studies ?
Perhaps one of the in-house HVAC engineers will do a series of in- house training seminars. Also the controls companies will often do design /application seminars for company engineering departments as part of their customer relations effort. We did this all the time and it involved fans, filters coils and well as controls, but we were a big company. We set it up and included anyone who was interested.
If you are in a small company, check with the local ASME and ASHRAE chapters and request assistance. They may invite you as a guest to such design seminars. ASHRAE membership is expensive, but they have excellent design manuals which may be in the local library or the compant engineering library. The whole design and applications series is redone about every five-six years and the back issues are still excellent.
ASHRAE is recognized as defining the state of the art.
