Advice on building a house?

My boyfriend and i are looking into building a home. We are first time home builders, so we will be getting the $21,000 grant from the Australian gov. We are looking at a 4x2. We also prefer a alfresco over a games room. Can you give us any advice form personal experience it will be much appreciated. Anything we should/shouldn't get, position of land, floor plan ect. any little things like that :) thankyou

Have a closed off area inside your front door before entering your house. If possible include a guest bath and a closet area. You'll be glad you did over the years. Have fun and enjoy making it a home

Have a closet by the door used most often when entering the house. Have a walk-in pantry. NEVER have any glass in the front door unless you want 5 million bugs to fly in every time the door is opened. A basement! to place the water heater, water softener or furnace.
