Get the dress on ebay and call the park districts in your area- it's usually VERY cheap to have your wedding in a park. Then either do a cake and punch reception or if you want a meal, a friend of mine bought stouffer's frozen lasagnes, had a nice salad and some good bread, bought liquor at Sam's club and it was really nice.Im planning a wedding. You will get lots of great advice about that subject on this messageboard. My son got a great deal on a used engagement ring on EBay. It has a beautiful quarter carat diamond in it, and he paid $125.00. Only buy from an EBay seller who has a lot of great feedback. The wedding ring came from an antique shop.


The night before the wedding, we had about six family members over to make all the flower arrangements. We got the flowers at the farmers' market, and a book of instructions at a craft store.

OK! I did mine for less then $700.00 and that was including a round trip ticket for my mother from Arizona-$150.00

Invitations-$15.00 (found what I wanted from the internet..and copied and pasted it onto my computer. Then went to KINKOS and got some pretty paper and matching envelopes to print up my own invitations)


Renting chairs and tables-$40.00


Renting Gazebo and Pavallion-$10.00 (for 2 hours)


Food, Decorations, Party Favors-$100.00


New Rings-$150.00


Photographer-$50.00 included prints and negatives (hired a photography student from the local JC.)
Many people usually volunteer to help out for the wedding... Mother of the Bride, the Groom's family, etc... If anything, you should find a nice house or club house (free) to rent, and invite as little people as you can since the more people, the more it will cost. Through friends, find out who has what (or who can do what), cake decorations, floral arrangements. If you go to a discount whole sale store, you can get cheap floral arrangements. Also, make your wedding cake (or allow someone else to), it will be much cheaper... even a decorated layor angel food cake is really nice if you put flowers around it or strawberries (fruit).
It is free to get married in a park. Just contact a park near you and make sure no permits are required and that space is available. Then you can get a tent for the party. For the ceremony set up white chairs and a little arbor. Some parks are stunning or have lakes so very little is needed. Then just get some food and rent some tables. My daughter had the same problem. They rented a place in a park that had a gazebo where they had the ceremony and a covered shelter to gather afterward.The minister was a friends father who did not charge a fee. Her dress was on sale ($99), she borrowed a veil and already had shoes to match. The food we all made at home and was heavy appetizers. Got ingredients at good prices and everyone raved how great it was. Served local wine. Bought decorations at dollar stores (baskets,vases, candles, paper products, wine glasses etc). Flowers came from vendor at farmer's market who was thrilled to be asked to make up the bouquet and table arrangements(daiseys in a vase) and cake was donated by a realtive as a present. DJ and photos were also presents from friends who provided the services. It was wonderful. Everyone was so impressed and it was very classy. With time and creativity it can be done to Martha Steward standards.
talk to a church, they usually do the wedding for free but its always good to donate a little money, and have the reception at your house instead of at some place where you have to pay a bunch of money to rent the place, and maybe cook your own food instead of a caterer
~Wear ';Sunday Best'; clothes that you already have. Him in a suit, you in a pretty dress or a suit with a skirt.


~Have a cake and punch reception instead of dinner.


~Skip the booze.


~Skip the music and dancing.


~Have a small family wedding in your backyard with only closest family and friends attend.


~Skip the favors


~Buy a nice bouquet of flowers from the grocery store or make a silk arrangement.


~Cake: walmart makes gorgeous wedding cakes. Sheet cake is fine, too.
