Advice on building a PC?

Hi,

I know my way around a PC, but have never built one from scratch before, so I'd like some advice on where I should start. Are there any good online guides or any other advice on which components I should choose?

ThanksAdvice on building a PC?
Well, you can always use the guide here:

And I would also recommend getting parts on newegg...but you probably knew that already.

Only other advice I can offer is to know what specs you want going in.Advice on building a PC?
What state are you in...one of the best places that help you with that is Fry's Electronics, they do A to Z...

I take it you are going for Tower so select good from usually up to $100 with a good power pack and then you need to go to the motherboard section and see what you need to start with after that mem, drivers, cards etc....you need to go to the store and not just look in the net if you know what you need you do not need us to tell you.

When you get your stuff in order you can post questions but no one will set and tell you step by step how to do it without knowing what you need and your budget, etc.

I am sure you know what you need but you need someone to push you..if you are Ready for it just do it...reminding you that it is cheaper now to get computer than building one...
you need one of item:

processor

mother board

ram

hard drive

heatsink

powrersupply

okay.

your processor must comply with your motherboard ( so the processor and motherboard must be able to accept the same socket type.)

so LGA775 for example. this supports core2duo's and Pentium 4's.

your motherboard will come with loads of slots, like SATA or IDE. you plug your hard drive into these ( dont worry your motherboard comes with both)

you then need ram, your ram needs to comply with your motherboard. your probably not spending thousands, so youll probably be getting DDR2.

make sure you buy ddr2 ram. then check the speed it runs at. 1066,800,666,533,400mhz. make sure you work in with each other.

youll get the heatsink supplied with your CPU.

then you fit your moniter into your socket like usual.

or you can be cool and buy a graphics card.

this is very powerfull component... it usually fits into a PCI E x16.

make sure your graphics card and motherboard have same slot etc.( there are no adapters)

youll need a powersupply for all of it too. make sure you get between the 400-500 watts to make sure nothing goes wrong. and make sure it isnt cheap crap. because it can destroy everything.

then you just buy DVD RW or what-not on top of that. oh and youll need a case ;p mouse/keyboard .. then speakers.
depends on your budget what you want you buy.

you need a (processor, motherboard, ram, case and hdd) to get started you can then add cd or dvd rw if you want etc. you need to also make sure the ram ,mobo and processor are all compatible.
Tom's Hardware can give you alot of advice, and Newegg usually has good prices on parts
