Advice with building musle... Please help!?

I'm 17 and I've been going to the gym 3 times a week doing resistance machines to build muscle. The trainer at the gym hasn't set me up to do free weights so I'm wondering can you gain much muscle from resistance machines or do I need free weights? Also Ive been doing this every other day doing a full body workout - I'm in the gym for about 1hr 30mins however Ive heard that splitting up the muscle groups for each workout is more effective or does this only true with free free weights?

If i did do a split Id only be in the gym for about 40mins doing resistance machines for just say my back, this doesn't sound enough to me? Any advice appreciatedAdvice with building musle... Please help!?
well okay. i am 16 and i go to the gym everyday but sunday. and like one day i do upper body the next i do lower body. and repeat. and on saturdays i do cardio like running and biking or swimming. and it seems to work really good for me. also i suggest using creatine. you take like a teaspoon before your workout and it just is like night and day for me.Advice with building musle... Free weights are key I found. I do upper body one day and lower the next. With curls I do what's called the pyramid. Start with your max weight or 2-5 less than max weight and curl it as many times as you can, when you can no longer do it grab the next weight down-do that as many times as you can-continue this until you are at about 2.5-5 pounds, sounds silly but works pretty good. Doing bench or squats anything heavy that you are underneath always have a spotter. Remember your last rep-last time you lift it-is doing the most good for muscle building.
machines take away ur CORE muscles, they give u form...dats why free weights are better, cuz u need to use ur core muscles to mantain the form the machine provided, and still lift the weight.
Yeah Free weights are the best way and most effective way to build muscle. You should split your workouts in to muscle groups if you plan on going every day, but if you are only going 3 days a week you would be fine doing a full body workout. They is much more I could say but it would take to long so please follow this link it will help amazingly. http://www.musclegaintips.com/
actually alternate do upper body one day let your body rest the next by doing lower body and very important after lifting weights you need to refuel so check so google 'after workout after weight lifting meal' or something like that to rebuild your muscles.
If you are really interested in building muscle then you should aim for higher weight for shorter amounts of time (less reps). The difference between free weighting and machines is mostly just in your head, its all resistance for your muscles which is exactly what you want. Make sure you are eating at least 120-140 grams of protein a day. I would go more than 3 times a week, do lower body 3 days and upper body 3 days if you can.
well brah...

you can do it either way...

personally... i prefer free weights... but that's just me...

also... you have to remember to have your daily dose of ';dude/brah';...

saying ';dude'; or ';brah'; less than 30 times a day is unacceptable
